The Strange Event

The rain is pouring down incessantly as you walk to work, attempting to bury yourself deeper into the hopelessly inadequate hooded overcoat you unwisely picked as protection from these sudden showers.

Yesterday's weather wasn't so bad. It was your first day on the job. Today being your second you'd hoped to feel less of a newbie, but now of course you'll be walking through the door soaked through and probably feeling more of a prat than yesterday, when it seemed every eye in the place was on you, waiting for you to foul up just so they could have a laugh at the your expense. Don't you just hate 'colleagues'!?

You're listening to the rain and for a moment the sound seems to pause. Pause - not stop - because you can still hear it, only the sound is somehow distorted. This sense disturbs you but you have no time to give it any real thought as your vision begins to blur too. Only slightly, but enough to disorientate you as you blink, shake your head and notice that now, the rain has actually stopped!

The rain has stopped. The sun is shining. The stormy dusk that made up the grisly atmosphere of this miserable day has gone. Weird; not only because of the sudden change, but because the ground is dry. Bone dry. It's like the rain had never fallen. You pull back your hood confused, shaking off the water from your sleeves which for some reason appears unaffected by this inexplicable change. Okay, so what the hell's going on!?

You look around and everything else apart from the change in weather appears to be as it should, yet nothing really is as it should be. You can feel that in your gut. So what's the deal? As you look around, you see further up ahead, walking on the same path as you, going in the same direction, a figure. The figure seems familiar, as if you should know who it is but yet you can't quite place exactly who. That uneasy feeling in your gut grows as the person in front of you glances to the left, allowing you to see enough of a face to recognise exactly who this is. The person up ahead is you.

Your mind reels at the revelation as the reality of what you've seen combined with the impossibility, collide and slowly bear fruit. You recognise the clothes you were wearing yesterday. The weather is the same. You're walking the same path. It would appear you may have somehow been thrown back in time by twenty four hours. It must be exactly one day - you're watching yourself walk to work on your first day, but it's your second, except now it's not your second - it's your first again!

What the hell are you going to do?
